Over 100,000 Meal Packs Complete in Four Years

Perry Lutheran
Homes served as the host organization for a “Meals from the
Heartland” meal packing event for the fourth year on Wednesday, May 1.
These meals feed undernourished people primarily in third world countries.

With the help of 300 volunteers in 7 hours, 30,024
meal packs were made on May 1. When combined with another 30,024 in 2018,
24,192 in 2017, and 22,680 in 2016, the four-year total surpasses the 100,000
meal packs complete mark. A grand total of 106,920 meal packs were complete
helping 641,520 people in need.

Perry Lutheran Homes to Host Fourth “Meals from the Heartland” Event

Lutheran Homes is looking for another 280 volunteers to reach the whopping
100,000 total meal packs complete mark on May 1, 2019. The meal packing event
will take place on Wednesday, May 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Perry
Lutheran Homes’ Willis Campus located at 2323 Willis Ave, Perry, IA. This year
will mark final year packaging another 30,000 meals in one day for a combined
four-year total of over 100,000 meal packs complete helping over 600,000 undernourished
people in need across the US and in third world countries.

Despite challenging circumstances while in Haiti, the Perry Lutheran Homes and
Lutheran Family Service team, together with Ministry in Mission, were able to
open and admit the first residents into the Jacmel Lutheran Home in Jacmel,
Haiti January 9 – 16. The eldercare home was designed to provide care for ten
of Jacmel’s most vulnerable elders.

SteppingUp to Care for Elders in Perry, IA and Jacmel, Haiti

Food, clean water, safe shelter and medical care are essential for life. However, these critical items are not easily accessible to the elders of Haiti due to no government safety net and poverty forcing many to live a life on the streets.

Perry Lutheran Homes is working to change this destitute reality for elder citizens in Jacmel, Haiti. The first ever intergenerational eldercare home of its kind is being constructed and phase one nearing completion. Run Through Time Proceeds Provide Clothes, Meals and More to Perry Elder Citizens

The community of Perry, together with Perry Lutheran Homes, is stepping up in a big way to support Perry’s elder citizens.
